Bruce Lansky, “The King of Giggle Poetry,”
visited Roanoke Avenue Elementary School in Riverhead, NY on April 20th,
2009. Here are some of the fun poems they wrote together…
A poem written by Mr. Richardson’s class (4th
grade):
Adventures of the Oreo Cookie Monster
(Sing to the tune of “On Top of Old Smokey”)
Oreo cookies,
I love them so well.
I eat three or four, then
my hips start to swell.
The show Biggest Loser
is where I must go.
But first I must work out
to star on the show.
‘Cause I’m just eleven,
my mother must drive.
The studio’s near us.
The show is taped live.
I start to feel hungry
when we’re in the car.
I’m dreaming of cookies
from my cookie jar.
I’m starting my workout.
The camera is on.
My Oreo cookies
are stashed in the “john.”
The camera is off now,
so I take a break.
Now I have a big choice—
It’s cookies or cake.
I’m covered with chocolate,
while I’m on my break.
I feel the earth shaking
with each step that I take.
